Food can be both a pleasure and your ticket to lifelong health, but only if you choose wisely. The temptation is great to pick elements from various popular diets, but intuition and common wisdom can be misleading. “Eat Real Food or Else” provides: - Nutritional advice based on the broad view of the entire body. - Delicious, illustrated step-by-step recipes for all occasions. Everyone should know by now that the biggest health problem with the food we eat is not the fat, it's the carbs - sugar, starches and gluten. Lien Nguyen's latest cookbook is firmly on the side of the most up-to-date findings of nutritional science. It actually begins with a detailed exposition of the concepts, terminology and processes of the human body' s metabolism of nutrients. The recipes that make up the main part of the book look almost too rich and delicious to be good for you. The creamy sauces, the generous use of coconut oil and animal fats are carefully balanced with minimal amounts of carbs. The result is a cookbook we've needed for a long time. It's not extreme or gimmicky; it's a highly informed, conscientious, and delightful guide to healthy living.

Eat Real Food or Else is beautifully designed and filled not only with great recipes, but also the very latest in nutritional science. It totally changed my mind about healthy eating. The author, Lien Nguyen has put together an amazing and indispensible guide for anyone who loves cooking, and is serious about a healthy lifestyle. And you may be surprised that balanced, nutritious food is not boring; you don’t have to sacrifice delicious meals to meet your long term health goals. Good basic information about micronutrients and how to reprogram your body and improve health by increasing the amount of vegetables and cutting all of the grains and potatoes out of your daily food intake. There are some informational chapters in the front of the book discussing (in layman's terms) the science behind starch-free/sugar-free "clean eating", and then the rest of the book consists of pretty easy recipes (many plant-based) and interesting tidbits of nutritional information.

Recipes and nutritional info were fine — I wasn’t blown away, but no real complaints. The main reason for the two stars is the truly horrible Kindle formatting. If you’re going to read this, do yourself a favor and get the physical version.

Not only is this an important, well-researched and thought-provoking book, but it is also chock full of easy, useful, everyday recipes - the sort you need 99% of the time. I'm a reasonable, everyday family cook, and most of the lavish cookbooks gracing my shelves are more good looks than practical. But in Eat Real Food or Else, I've discovered some simple new techniques (easy almond meal crust for a quick quiche Lorraine, for instance, or a timesaving, practical way to cook chicken), as well as some great, everyday recipes that I've already repeated for the family (Breaded Fish, a delicious Green Beans recipe). This is a book that you are likely to consult at least once a week. More significantly, though, Eat Real Food or Else will really make you think about how you are feeding yourself and your family. We all know that sugar is not brilliant for a body, but were you aware that starches are as bad? And that fat is great? The evidence is presented clearly and accessibly here. The idea is that we should understand how food affects our body, make intelligent, informed adjustments accordingly, and then thoroughly enjoy our meals with gusto. How great is that?

I really liked this book. The author goes through different healthy foods, shows how to prepare them, and it provides plenty of pictures. The Kindle version seems like an Adobe document, and it is difficult to read on the iPhone Kindle app. Unfortunately i had to purchase the hard-cover version because i could not see the recipes well enough to use in the kitchen.

Now there's an informationally informative cook/reference/healthy lifestyle book! Full of information. The recipes sound wonderful! After the holidays, I'm going to try them. Not all at once! Promise!

This is an exceptional book that provides both scientific information about nutrition and delicious recipes for every day cooking. Since I have Hashimoto's Disease, the book was particularly helpful to me, but it is also relevant to anyone wanting to eat healthy and feel great.
