Hotheaded, sexually fluid vampire who's less "blood-drinking creature of the night" than "erratic dude obsessed with McDonald's" meets stripper on the run from abusive husband. They fall in love/lust. Vampire dude hates that she's a stripper, although he was just fine with it until he realized her identity. Stripping: good enough for everyone else but not HIS female! Bad creatures want to kill her. Cue drama. And a weird proclivity for calling a face a "puss." Honestly, this wasn't as terrible as Hotheaded, sexually fluid vampire who's less "blood-drinking creature of the night" than "erratic dude obsessed with McDonald's" meets stripper on the run from abusive husband. The editing was just fine, but the plot was thin and I didn't care for certain aspects of the romance. Sometimes the sex was sexy, but other times things were described in ways that made me cringe. But whatever. It was free and I read it FOR SCIENCE.

www.melissa413readsalot.blogspot.com Well.... I love the cover of the book! I love Micah, although he was getting on my nerves for the first part of the book. I mean the things he was going through to try to get over his heartache seemed to go on forever. And since I'm not a vampire with those kinds of feelings..yes..he has feelings... I can't say for sure how I would feel. But it was on and on too much for me... something about it I can't put my finger on. Or maybe it was just me wanting him to get on with being hot :) I'm confused on how I really want to rate this, I'm glad Micah found his life mate in Samantha so quickly, seeing that what he thought was a bonded mate may have been meant for Sam in the first place. Long story, read the book! It's free right now :) There are a good bit of characters in the book that work for the agency Micah works for, AKM (All The Kings Men). They are enforcers and some of them do stuff on the side to secretly keep the Drecks in line or kill them. Drecks are shapeshifters and are some mean peeps. The man one named Apostle is a cop of course so he can get away with a lot. He and Micah have a little war going on but it's taken care of my Trace :) I really liked Trace in this book. He is part of AKM and he's a day walker unlike Micah. But he is something else too. He keeps talking about being a guardian angel and he has powers.. I might have missed something, but either way he's cool. There were a few things here and there that I liked about the book, but there were too many with Sam and Micah doing the nasty so often about 30 minutes after they meet and most of the rest of the book.. there is not much room for anything else. And I'm not saying there is anything wrong with erotic books, I didn't know this was one, but when it's on and on and on.. and on.. I just get bored. Sorry :-/ And some things were just gross! But if you want a good book to take to your private place then this is a good one :) YES.. I SAID IT.. WHAT DO YOU WANT.. WE ALL KNOW THE TRUTH HERE! :) LOL Anyhoo, so that's about it, I wanted to love this book, but all the lovin' without more stuff going on just wore me out.. um.. don't go there! But I will give it 3 stars because Trace as so cool and Micah being so hot when he was just being hot! :) Fin!

Got it as a freebie. Micah is a vampire whose most recent mate, Jackson, left him. Vampires apparently can't deal well when that happens, and they want to die. When Micah provokes a group of his enemies (to kill him because he's so miserable), Samantha Garrett shows up and rescues him. And within 24 hours, Micah knows that Sam is his new mate, and pretty much they get down to business with no real conflict. Yup. I mean. Sam just kind of shrugs and thinks, 'Vampire? They're real? Okay. He's hot, I'll do him.' Where to begin? I started typing out this review with the intention of trying to explain my issues with the story, and then realized that my review was all over the place. I stopped, took a deep breath, and tried to figure out why. It hit me. The story was all over the place. No wonder I'm having trouble. There are several secondary storylines going on (a m/m relationship, an abusive ex-husband stalker, a nasty gang of lessors -er- Drecks, a guardian who is -um- a masochist (I think) and looking for the hero to (what?), and at the very end, a 'dungeon' in the hero's apartment?). And this is NOT a long book, so all of these stories just kind of popped in without being fleshed out, but in a way that the reader seemed to be meant to think they were vitally important. The world building is vague, resolutions are bland, or just plain convenient (what's that term we all use when the author makes up a reason on the spot, but it's never been alluded to in the story previously? Yeah, that.). So, if you think my review is convoluted, you're probably right. I just don't see how else to write it. :) One positive, though. At least the editing/grammar isn't atrocious.

Does anyone else want to punch Jackson in the face? Or am I the only one? I can’t believe that I let this book sit in my kindle for over 18 months without reading it. I really liked it which means that I have been sucked into yet another series that I want/need to finish. Oh Micah…he is everything that I would want in my own alpha hero. I really loved this book. It is PNR and it has traits that reminds of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. But let's face it - it is not BDB. So much said at the beginning. And that is good because these books are already getting written by Mrs. Ward. Donya Lynne creates another world - not as absolute as BDB. Her characters have different abilities. For example: Yes, we find "mating" and "bonding", but it must not be unbreakable. Some of the vampires are able to walk outside during the days (due to th I really loved this book. So - even if the book isn't as long and complex, there are different ideas already behind it, that makes me want to read more. Thus saying: My only complaint is that the book is too short. I would have loved to read more. On the other hand, the book is fast paced, you never get bored, you can read it very fluently. You just don't notice that time is running. I don't want to tell the story here, you need to read it. I love the way both hero and heroine are described; Not just perfect but with little flaws in behavior. I especially likes Sam because she is neither the fragile beauty with a core of steel nor the kickass fighter woman(these are the stereotypes for female characters). She is a bit of both and then mostly herself - and she knows what she wants without being hardass. Nice done. And well, Micah....hm...yummy..and so conflicting... ;) The subplots were very entertaining, too. And I'm very curious about Trace...yes, I need to know more. The best features in the books? The dialogues. I grinned nearly the whole time, especially because they sounded so "right" and "normal". Does that make sense? They were funny, teasing and entertaining but not in an artificial way. So the basics for more books are laid, too. I'm going to buy them.

Rise of the Fallen Book #1 is an Adult Paranormal Urban Fantasy Erotic Romance in the All the King's Men series. I remember enjoying it more the 1st time I read it. Some minor glitches are editing mistakes in my Kindle copy (nothing that took away from the story) and the beginning had a tendency to drag a little. A couple of times the story got repetitive. Those words could have been used better building the different characters involved, the role of the AKM. Samantha is a strong individual and intelligent. Micah is crazy with grief and insane! The changes that Sam brought about in him are striking. There are some really hot scenes between them. Another erotic scene took place between 2 other characters that really captured your attention. Also, the character Trace was intriguing. His part in the story line really keeps your curiosity working overtime. With a little tweaking this could have EASY been a 5 star book. Rise of the Fallen

What I liked.... A vampire that has lost his second mate (the first his wife, the second his male partner of a year) and is in an emotional spiral. They've lived hundreds of years so it makes sense that they would view people they are attracted to/drawn to more openly. ... hmm... I think that's about it. The "villains" were too easily dispatched for me to believe that there was ever any real danger. And I felt like there were too many POVs happening which made the story feel like the whole series of characters were being introduced to me at once. The story was just okay for me, I didn't *dislike* it but I also didn't particularly care either.

This book is amazing. It held my attention and didn't let go. There have only been a few books that I became so engrossed in that just the emotion from it made me want to cry. This book did that and more. Micah and Sam's chemistry melted the book pages, and it didn't feel forced at all. The characters are believable and I like the enemy's too. This book is a MUST if you love vamps and hot sexiness. PS. There's a little M/M action, and some mild BDSM.

12/28/2012 -- 3.5 Stars [extra credit for being a Freebie, I'd say 2.5 without the extra credit]. I liked it, didn't love it. It could have been so much better. The author couldn't seem to decide which path to follow so in the end, it resembled a messy stew. Too many characters, too many components, not enough depth in any one of them. Some really good elements in the story, some likeable characters, but seemed to lack focus. I think this author has potential, so may try another one or two to see. 12/28/2012 -- 3.5 Stars [extra credit for being a Freebie, I'd say 2.5 without the extra credit]. I liked it, didn't love it. I didn't like that a fairly interesting story, with well-fleshed-out characters and decent world building, suddenly devolved into sex, sex and secondary characters having sex too. And then some BDSM because, well, the story and characters weren't interesting enough without it. The bad guys got offed in a way that the author must have gotten bored with the plot and...oh, yeah, the sex.

This was a free book on Nook so I thought I'd check it out. Who doesn't like free books? Micah is a vampire, grieving because his mate has just left him. I hardly ever give a book five stars, but this was a rare story, I just couldn't put down. This author has taken a way over populated paranormal genre and brought us something different. Her characters are strong, yet troubled. You have no problem relating the their emotions and it's nice to see something where a vampire's life is not perfect. Where they have left me wishing for more, and leaving me feeling like there just could have been more to the book, Micah Black's story took me to the edge and dropped me over it. I wasn't left feeling cheated as I set the book down. I look forward to this authors series. If she continues with work like this, she could easily join or surpass the ranks of Ward, Kenyon, and Feehan. Well written, well thought out and a total joy to read that left me longing for the next book.

I was disappointed in this book. I liked the beginning - the characters and the world they live in. By the end I decided this book was all sex and no story. I was disappointed that it seemed their inclusion in the book was solely for the purpose of getting them together. I also felt the resolution of the story line of the (ex)-husband was rushed and not satisfying. I was tempted to read the second novel, since it seems to be about the characters I like in this book. The sense I get from the reviews I've read is that it has the same format (all sex, no story) that I didn't like about this one. So, I'll skip it.

But he doesn't expect Sam to come to his rescue when she spots Micah getting his ass kicked. Micah and his team work for AKM- All The Kings Men, they are vampire enforcers. They policed the Drecks who were like vampires but lower class and not as strong. Micah's team have several members but Trace was the one who intrigued me the most. Micah keeps most of them at arms length and he's known for being the grumpy one you stay away from and just let him do his own thing but they are there for him when it matters. The Drecks that had been beating Micah up are pissed and are out to get Sam for stopping them and saving Micah. Sam is in danger so she really has no choice but to go back to Micah's place until he can deal with the situation for her but that doesn't stop the Drecks from coming after her. I really liked the Guardian aspect of this story. He was a bit mysterious in the beginning. I'm still not sure exactly what his deal is or what exactly he is but it'll be interesting to read his story. When Sam's ex finally catches up with her, I thought it was pretty funny how she decides to get her revenge on him. She has Micah there to help her so I knew it would be something good. Never mess with a vampire.

I read the first four chapters for free via goodreads and was certainly intrigued to read more .. Donya has written a storyline that will keep the readers interest piqued throughout. Changes to the vampire traits we normally see, and a storyline that is unique. Witches ............ vampires ..... creating a different form of vampire - ** won’t say too much here ** and Drecks...... I have to say that as soon as I started reading I was pulled directly into the world of Micah Black. Though I did not know who he was at first I knew that this was going to be someone I could like based on how dark and tortured he appeared because you know that he feels deep. The plot of this book is very straight forward and keeps moving at a good pace which allows you to follow the action without getting bogged down. There are no slow spots of weird changes to deal with, no shifts in time or tense to keep track of, you know what is going on every step of the way. When you consider that most of the main characters are vampires, you can still relate to them and what they are dealing with as people. I could imagine knowing someone like Trace, a nice guy who is quiet and keeps to himself but is looking to make a friend of the guy everyone else avoids. I know sometimes the dialogue in these books can seem kind of stilted or forced, but that is not the case here. The dialogue seems to be very true to who each of the characters are, keeping in mind that some of them are quite old. ;) Our main character is Micah Black who works at AKM (All the Kings Men) as an enforcer, he keeps the peace between the drecks (lower vampires) and upper level vampires. Micah has fallen into a dark place because of the lose of his mate and is looking for a way to continue living as he is or to die. Samantha Garrett is working as a stripper after leaving her abusive husband and simply wants to make enough money to get a new identity so she can feel free. They have nothing in common but when they cross paths it is salvation them both. My favorite quote from Micah, "If they made a move on Sam, he'd fuck up their world so righteously the galaxy would shift from the gravitational pull of his wrath." Micah is not a man you want to get in the way of, he is fierce, passionate, and loyal. Who wouldn't want a man to feel like that about them. You see these traits in all the characters, they are a group I cannot wait to find out more about! In this first of the series we get to meet Micah but in subsequent novels we will get more on the other enforcers at AKM. Each should be just as exciting and hot as this one. I will be reading them as fast as I can get them. There is some talk of BDSM but it is fairly mild though some of the scenes are good and hot even without it. Also if M/M action makes you squeamish you may want to skip. **I listened to this for my second time around and it was just as good or even better than my reading it. The narrator, Mikela Drew, does a fantastic job of bring this story to life. While the second book is available, and I plan to listen to it also, I can only hope that they soon bring the rest of the series to audio too.

ALL THE KINGS MEN is sort of like a subset of The Black Dagger Brotherhood, meets Alpha Pack, meets Brotherhood of Blood. All the Kings Men is a group of warriors trained to fight rogue shapeshifters and other problematic preternaturals. Micah is one of the strongest on the team, but he's had a rough run with his mates and is in a VERY bad place as the story begins. He's a complex, tortured, bad boy and if you like alpha males, you can't help but love him and feel for the guy. Sam is one of those bad a** heroines that you love to love. She holds her own, looks out for others, is sexy, savvy and smart. Her and Micah together are absolute dynamite! The sexual chemistry of these two literally jumps off of the page and you can't help but re-read sections because they are really...just...that...good! The supporting cast was phenomenal as well. I personally cannot wait to find out more about Trace, the myserious self appointed guardian of Micah and best friend of the couple. There is so much more than meets the eye with him and I am so excited to find out what's up. The bad guys in this tale were nasty. Diabolical in their scheming, ruthless in their pursuit, and utterly enjoyable to read. If you haven't gotten the hint, I loved the book. I thought it was fantastic. My one problem was the ending because I am not a fan of the cliff-hanger and Donya was a dirty tease at the end of this book. The bonus is that I don't have to wait long for book #2 to find out what the heck happens. :) LITERAL ADDICTION gives Rise of the Fallen 4 1/2 Skulls and would recommend it to Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and all Alpha Male Vampire lovers. Definitely a great new find and I want to thank Jowanna at Pimpin' Reads for telling me I had to read it! :)

Rise of the fallen book 1 I really liked the characters. Micah is irascible, unstable and gnarly, a complex vampire.. He is coming down off a failed relationship with suicidal tendencies. It did have a similar theme to some other series I have read, but that was o.k. It didn't bother me. My problem with this book is I felt like I came in at the middle, everyone knew Micah to be a badass , doesn't play well with others, a loner and I didn't. I just saw the broken pieces from a bad breakup, and could not understand why no one cared. I Didn't understand about who the drecks were and what is going on with them, what all these AKM where doing, their jobs, or anything. I got confused about the mating and having a mate. We start off reading how Micah suffering to the point of suicide and then he turn around in a blink of an eye and falls for Sam after she rescues him from his attempt to kill himself and mates with her. I felt that Sam accepted all that was happening to her a little bit to easily and at the end we are left with questions about what she becomes. I will not be continuing with this series. It was to vexing for me.

Lying low and staying off her ex’s radar she was forced to put in long hard hours at the Black Garter. After rescuing the lost and suicidal vampire, her life is flipped upside down. It will tug on your heart one moment and then have you sweating in your seat the next. Sweet and sexy. When it’s sexy, good gracious hang on. I almost fell out of my chair! Alpha male meet your Alpha female. Anxiously awaiting the next one. *4.5 bloodsucktacular stars*

Alright, first of all there were things that just convoluted the crap out of this story. I guess she was so tough that it didn't scare her, right. The author threw in so many curve balls into the story line that I wasn't sure if she forgot to go back to it and further elaborate or she just said screw it they'll figure it out. I get the whole setting up a series of stories with the first story but a lot of major issues we're completely overlooked. There wasn't really a lot of info given on what the world was, the building was vaguely mentioned as where they were but what the heck is it all about. The random m/m romance quickly thrown in for a teaser, also the references to the sadist guardian with hints of future episodes of bdsm with Micah. The romance was fast and furious between Micah and Sam (m/f)and Sev and Ari (m/m). So fast on the m/m story that I knew it was just a set up for the next story. Because Ari isn't gay, at least he doesn't think so......

I will never get tired of Vampires. EVER. I love how authors will write about the old known legends of Vampires and add twists and turns to them. The characters are so well developed, the plot is intense and the story never stops moving. I picked this book up and could not put it down. As you may or may not know about me, I tend to cheer for the bad guys. Call it a character flaw if you might but I am always so interested in why the bad guys are the bad guys and what makes them tick. The drecks have a human glamour and are not the typical fine as can be bad boys but they are still really cool characters!

This book has plenty of erotic sex including some m/m action so I just wanted to put it out there. So Micah is a damaged vampire who lost his mate in the early part of his vampirism. He finally found someone to replace her in Jackson however Jackson was just to self-absorbed to be anyone's mate so Micah lost him too. As he is in the deppest part of depression he finds enemies to have him killed until a pretty woman rescues him (Sam). That is the foundation of this story. I thought it sounded very intriguing because we usually see the woman being depressed and trying to do something stupid. However even though Sam is damaged by her abusive husband she doesn't let it slow her down. As the 2 characters navigate their attraction they see how well they really are together and I liked to think that maybe it was because of the emotional issues that they have that they ccan relate to each other. The story has side plots like the drecks (enemies of the vampires) and abusive husbands and also other team members who are hiding their attraction due to male on male action. but it seems to me it is a well thought out and well developed story with creatively written characters.

I want to say first that it was a decent enough read. My only problem is it read like fan fiction of J.R. Ward's BDB. I don't have a problem with fan fiction in general, but that's what this story came off as. Now to the story itself, I'm still a bit confused as to what the AKM are really doing. I understand they keep the drecks in line, but there was no real detail (through showing) of the drecks being a problem to anyone other than the vampires. I also don't understand the power structure. They have a king, but other than having to answer to the king regarding changing humans, I don't understand the social power structure of the vampire world. They are called All the King's Men without any real answers to why they have that name. Are they personal guards (obviously not), a military unit selected by the king himself, or something else altogether? This is a question easily answered and could have brought more immersion into the world. I liked the story well enough, but I find Trace more interesting than Micah. I'm sure it will be answered in other books how the hybrids (rogues) are more "powerful" than full blooded vampires despite their half breed status.
